After Nations blends heavy post-metal with expansive post-rock, exploring secular Buddhist themes of self-awareness, interconnectivity, and the cyclical nature of existence. It is the sound of Meshuggah colliding with Explosions in the Sky.

Full Bio

After Nations is a hard-hitting quartet whose sound explores the spaces among djent, stoner metal, and heavy post-rock. Through years of DIY releases, US tours, and solidarity with local music scenes and artists around the country, the band has developed a dedicated underground following.

Their latest full-length album, Surface | Essence, traverses the crushing heaviness of djent and sludge, while drawing on the coloring and spaciousness of post-rock. Balancing massive force with moments of quiet contemplation, their sound is one of rhythmic complexity, hypnotic passages, and deep, textured heaviness. Through composition that combines the explosive with the meditative, After Nations continue to simultaneously create and explore a space for themselves in post-metal.

 

"Yāti" offers a powerful glimpse into After Nations’ latest full-length album, Surface | Essence, where crushing post-metal merges with expansive post-rock. Following a lead single released in early November, "Yāti" builds momentum, seamlessly combining the rhythmic complexity of djent with the meditative, hypnotic qualities of post-rock — a sound like Meshuggah and Explosions in the Sky colliding. The album rollout will feature three music videos, pre-release teasers, and a U.S. summer tour.

Ātmā is a Sanskrit term referring to “self”, or awareness through one’s mind, body, and senses. The concept articulates the nature of self as distinct yet interconnected with all existence – the non-duality understanding of a sense of individuality arising from and with the unity of all things.

This is the third and final single off the album, Surface | Essence.

The Endless Mountain is After Nations’ previous full-length release (2022), where the project first began to explore and define its place in post-metal.
